Agreed. I noticed this comes not long after the announcement of the free Unity Indie release (official blog post). Do you think Epic is making a direct response to Unity's offering? Or is this something that's more likely been in the works?

Hmm, my initial thoughts were that it is in response. But I think it might have been in the works for a while.

This decision confuses me quite a bit, but I'm sure some people out there can elaborate on this.
....what is the purpose of releasing their SDK for public use? Do they gain any benefit? It's hard to believe that they are just trying to be nice... Honestly my heart is pounding about this...this is such a great opportunity for me to improve my portfolio. What exactly is different in the Free ; Licensee versions? Only differences I could find were that you had to be a licensee to access some documentation.
