  • Game Institute Announces Course in Console Design

  • The Game Institute has announced the launch of a new course on video game console design, which in addition to being available entirely online, was also developed and will be taught by experienced practitioners of electrical engineering and game development.

    Andre LaMothe, creator of the XGameStation, and Joshua Hintze, creator of the XGS' Digital Logic Exploration Kit are teaching the upcoming course. The content relates to the fundamentals of game hardware, including game consoles, handhelds, video cards, sound cards, and input devices.

    Besides the software and course materials that are available on the website, students who enroll will also receive a complete hardware kit containing over 100+ components, including items such as: pre-manufactured printed circuit board, microcontrollers, The Black Art of Video Game Console Design by Andre LaMothe paperback book, soldering iron, digital multimeter, Nintendo gamepad controller, resistors, capacitors, and LEDs.

    The course, which begins on November 1, 2006, is currently accepting pre-orders to ship materials to students available at the Video Game Console Design website.
