How to Dress for an Interview

I know the work environment is dress code free, t-shirts and sandals and shorts and really whatever. So how should I dress if I go in the office for an interview. I was going to wear slacks and a button down with some nicer shoes but I am afraid I may stick out and look silly.

You should dress just one notch above how you would dress in the job. Are you applying for a job in marketing video games? If so, a tie would not be out of place. Are you applying for a job in testing video games? If so, don't wear shorts and sandals, wear long pants and shoes with socks instead.
Slacks and a button-down-collar shirt and nice shoes would be overdressing for a QA job, and underdressing for a marketing job.

With dress codes, I normally ask as each studio/company may have different expectations. As Tom said, the rule of thumb is you should dress just one notch above how you would dress in the job.

The way i see it is dress smart but also feel comfortable in what you wear. A tie looks very professional but if you are not comfortable wearing one then dont. If you are uncomfortable your mind will be on that and make you more nervous. Also dont wear a tie if its roasting hot (weather wise) you will be dying lol. Simple shirt and trousers look really smart. I must say i have always worn a shirt, trousers and clean shoes and been in interviews with my top button undone. I look smart and respectable and feel comfortable myself and think the perception of a suit and tie is a touch outdated now unless you are going for a job on wall street.

I don't know, I think you should always dress up a bit still, just to make sure you leave good impression.
It's when you actually WORK there, then you wear whatever the hell you want!

I am sure you have heard the term "First Impressions" you may only get one go at it!!
I doubt too many people have been turned down for being over dressed at an interview!
