If you are a programmer, you shoud consider Flex instead. It's the same technology as Flash (produces SWFs), but programmer-oriented.

Kongregate's 'Shootorials' are definitely 'newbie'-oriented, but I like them. Big plus is that you're making an actual game with these, instead of just a generic Flash project.

I started using AS3 a month ago and I posted a tutorial for it here.
Out of the stuff I wrote, I would say using FlashDevelop is the best tip. It's leagues ahead of the Flash CS4 editor and has some good features that will help you learn. I thought Flex was web development oriented; what functionality does it have for OOP? |

there is a bunch of great flashgame tutroials over at mrsunstudios.com.
i also found Emanuele Feronato's blog to be a great resource. especally for physics related stuff. |

Flex uses AS3, just like Flash, so they are the same OOP-wise. Both produce SWFs. The main difference between the two is that Flash is mainly timeline-based, whereas Flex is code-based. Flex’s IDE is FlexBuilder, which is based on Eclipse.
If you’ve been programming for a while, you have probably used Eclipse at some point. It’s a great IDE. http://www.adobe.com/products/flex/

I have Vista32
And Eclipse 3.4.1 takes around 200 Megabytes with smallish Java project open. Is that alot then? Depends on the viewPoint.... |
