Default Chomp: Sharks of the Seven Seas

Hey, I just wanted to post the final beta of Chomp which a game I developed on a team of three for my senior project at college. We never reached the point where we could add gameplay objectives but it is fun if you like to swim around as a shark and eat things... Basically what we have here is a square mile of sandbox without too many toys. The AI is in its infancy -- we just ran out of time to add behavior and give it polish. We did not have an artist so everything you will see is programmer art, most of it done by me...

You can watch a video of the game here: LINK

You can download an installer for the game here: LINK

One of my team members is preparing a postmortem to the game after which I will add some things myself. We did a lot of things that were fairly complex to get this game running so it should be a good read.

Nice work! It is indeed fun to swim around as a shark and eat things. As you said it could use some polish, but certainly not bad for programmer art and obvious you put a lot of effort into it. Great job!

Ha, yeah it was kind of depressing. We finished all the groundwork for the game and were reaching the point where we could just add new forms of AI and missions but we ran out of time and motivation. The code was really, really decoupled but doing so made it hard to understand how your code was even being called (interfaces to register objects which then called the objects function pointers...). We even had the map editor set up to add events to places to make it easier on us for placing the events.

Ahh well, I am pretty happy with what we have now. We put a huge amount of time into it.
