I'm curious exactly why the writer of that article recommends not going to the talks. I realize that my goal is going to be to network, but I've purchased a main pass in order to also gain some quality knowledge from the event and I would think lectures in your discipline would help guide an aspiring developer forward.

I personally disagree with the advice, "don't go to the talks."

The Career Seminar will be great for entry-level people, and a few of the "all audience levels" talks in the main GDC will be appropriate, too.

However, do steer clear of high-level programming talks or shader language stuff because your time really could be better spent networking, interviewing, etc.

Blizzard is crazy at GDC. The two companies I actually didn't apply to at the show last year were Blizzard and Bungie because they were surrounded by so many fanboys trying to get jobs there.

If you are going to try to apply to blizzard make sure you send in your info first. More than likely they aren't hiring entry level but you never know .

I would have guessed And indeed, it is better to send in info before applying. I don't think anyone attending GDC has been hired by Blizzard/Bungie yet But I could be wrong!
